"Thou Shalt See Greater Things Than These" John 1:50
Scripture Graphic: Correlates to John 1:50.This packet includes several versions of this scripture graphic.
Personal note: We here at Gospel Home Study Packets.com loved this phrase from John 1:50. Phillip, upon finding Christ and realizing He was the promised Messiah went to tell Nathanael he found him. “Come and see.” Nathanael went to Jesus and upon seeing him Jesus said “Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!” and Nathanael asks how Jesus knew it was him. Christ explains that before then, he had seen Nathanael under a fig tree. Nathan testified “Thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.” Christ asks “Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou?” Then He says, “Thou shalt see greater things than these.” A tree. Christ saw Nathanael under a tree and Nathanael simply believed. What greater things would Nathanael behold? Christ knelt in a garden of trees, Joseph saw Him in a grove of trees. Lehi taught of a tree of life and love. Thus our graphic for this scripture is a tree.
Tip: This packet includes an 8x10 for framing, a smaller size for handouts and a mini size for a scripture tuck (place in your scriptures stuck between the pages at John 1:50.)
"Come And See" Poster John 1
Come and See poster: Correlates to John 1. This graphic beautifully represents the words of some of the apostles as they realized their long search for the Messiah was ending.. As the creators of this packet, we were very touched reading again of that experience in John 1. Their joy and wonder quickly became our joy and wonder. We struggled to know how to portray that in a graphic. Simple, pure, quiet. We hope this graphic will help instill in you the joy and testimony we felt while creating it.
Tip: We found him! If the circumstances seem appropriate, you may feel inspired to share how you found the Savior or became converted to His gospel.
Tip: You can hide the smaller versions of the poster in each family member’s scriptures at John 1. Ask everyone to turn to John 1 to read of John’s eagerness to have everyone come and see the Savior.
Tip: Invitations are included in this packet. You may consider placing them on a mirror, a refrigerator door, or a steering wheel.
"Divine Identity"
What are some things that you "are"? I am kind, I am tall, I am a soccer-player
I am a Son of God
I am a Daughter of God
I am a Child of God
Tip: While discussing why the adversary would want us to doubt our divine identity, you can discuss other attributes of your family members. Mom: She is a nurse. She is an artist. Brother: He is a football player. He is a scientist, and so forth. Use these cards for your family members to write two things they are, to help them remember that along with everything and anything else, they will always be a beloved son or daughter of God. Be sure to bear testimony of this so they know you love them, and He loves them.
"Ye are the Salt of the Earth"
“Why did the Savior compare His disciples to salt? What does it mean to be the salt of the earth? What do we know about salt? You could try making a Family Home Evening treat with and without salt. Is there a difference? Salt preserves as well. Meat is often preserved with salt. Can this be applied to the Savior’s message. The Savior also said “Salt that has lost its savor is good for nothing.” Did you know that really the only way salt can loose its savor is when it is contaminated by other elements? Sometimes, because salt held so much value, merchants would add other things to salt and then sell it to unsuspecting customers. What things are added to our lives that make it hard for us to savor the words of our Savior. Who would want us to become contaminated? How can we be purified again? As you discuss this analogy with your family, prayerfully consider the message the Lord has for you. How can you apply “salt” to your life?
"Perfection Pending"
Does Heavenly Father really expect me to be perfect? Christ said “Be ye therefore perfect.” Some people say “perfect” as in complete. Others say it is a blessing, a miracle, like “Be ye therefor healed.” Christ heals us, and it is through His grace that we are perfected. Elder Holland puts it this way: “Perfection Pending” We at GospelHomeStudyPackets.com like that. That is no pressure. No worry. Through Christ we are healed, we are made perfect, in time. Perfection pending.
