A "Not So Wimpy" Missionary
After Jesus was resurrected, he asked his apostles and disciples to bear witness of him, teach his gospel and invite every nation, tongue and kindred to follow him. They enjoyed much success, and many trials, and 2,000 years later, we are called to do the same. We are admonished to proclaim the gospel of Christ. Imagine you are called to serve a two-year, (or 18 month) mission. What things will you pack? What tools will help you be prepared to stand as a witness and bear testimony of the divinity of Christ? As members of Christ’s church, we are missionaries every day. What can we do to prepare to be a full-time missionary AND to be a missionary today?
Use this packing list to show things a missionary might pack before he or she departs for a mission. How do these item correlate to things we can do to prepare ourselves for a mission, and for serving the Lord every day?
Use the larger illustrations by placing them in a suitcase or bag as if they have been packed for a mission. Pull one item out at a time and discuss how it might be used on a mission. Then discuss how we might use a similar item to help us be ministers of Christ today.
Hint: These things are really great aspects to help our little ones turn into great adults, full-time mission or not.
